Bolangir, July 24: Odisha Vigilance sleuths apprehended an Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of Patnagarh RW sub-division in Odisha’s Bolangir district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a complainant.
The accused, identified as Sujit Kumar Padhy, was apprehended while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant, which was the final installment of the total amount demanded, Rs 1,00,000.
As per reports, Padhy had demanded Rs 1,00,000 from a contractor (complainant) for the clearance of his pending bills, which were deliberately withheld despite the completion of the work.
After receiving tip-off regarding this, Vigilance officials laid a trap and caught Padhy red-handed while he was accepting the bride amount.
Following this, the Vigilance officials launched searches at three places associated with Padhy over suspicions of possessing disproportionate assets.
A case under Section 7 of the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered against Padhy and further investigation into the matter is underway, said an official.
