Odisha: Two former MLAs file nomination for Zilla Parishad

Bhubaneswar, Jan 19: Two former MLAs have filed nomination papers as candidates for the posts of Zilla Parishad Member. Both have filed their nomination as candidates of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). The two former legislators are Prafulla Jena and Halu Mundari. Jena was elected MLA from the Bhandaripokhari assembly constituency on a Janata Dal ticket during the bypoll for the seat held in 1991 while Mundari was an MLA from Raghunathpalli. Mundari was Raghunathpalli MLA from 2004 to 2009. He was also twice elected as Zilla Parishad Member from Bisra (A) seat. As many as 37,232 ward members have filed their nomination on Wednesday while 8947 sarpanch candidates have also filed their nomination today. Similarly the number of nominations for panchayat samiti members and zilla parishad members on Wednesday stood day at 6205 and 484 respectively. The nomination filing process by the candidates will continue till January 21.
