Cuttack, May 15: The Department of Home is all set to release as many as 470 under trial prisoners from jail those are staying behind bars despite their bail dues are over for socio-economic reasons. Odisha Government has submitted an affidavit to submit the status report on it by May 31. Acting on the order of the Orissa High Court and the Supreme Court of India, Home Department gets ready to prepare a database on it with the help of the District Administrations. The legal services authorities will assist the deserving inmates to be released soon. Hearing on a petition of Krishna Prasad Sahu, a division bench of the Orissa Court comprising Chief justice S Muralisharan and Justice KR Mohapatra ordered the Home Department to expedite the release process of the 470 selected inmates. At the same time, the Amicus Curie Goutam Mishra put forth the difficulties of the eligible inmates those are getting punishment after their bail period. As a result, the bench directed the State Legal Services Authorities to facilitate the release of these prisoners. On the other hand, the state government has formed a High Power Committee to accelerate the release process soon. Accordingly, the Jail Superintendents will be asked to release them on personal bond.
