Bhubaneswar, July 6: The Odisha State Cooperative Handicrafts Corporation Ltd has submitted an application seeking geographical indication (GI) tag for Cuttack’s silver filigree. Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) attorney and advocate P Sanjai Gandhi has filed the application on behalf of the Odisha government. Officials said that as many as three handicraft products from Odisha have received GI tags. These products are Konark stone carving, Odisha pattachitra and Pipli appliqué. The filigree artists work with an alloy of 90% or more pure silver. This highly skilled art form is more than 500 years old and is traditionally done by local artisans mostly from Cuttack.
