Odisha Police to accept complaints of domestic violence from doorstep during lockdown

Bhubaneswar, April 14: Odisha Police has decided to reach the homes of women facing domestic violence during lockdown. The decision was taken after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik directed Police DG, Abhay to take stringent action against those, promoting domestic violence during the lockdown. Police DG has also issued a circular for all police stations in the state in this regard. As per the circular cases of domestic violence cases will be given high priority. “To lodge the complaint, during the lockdown period, victims of domestic violence need not come to police station. On receipt of telephone, police will reach the spot/home to collect complaints/FIR and take necessary action. They can also approach police through Odisha Police Citizen Portal and Sahayata Mobile app,” read the circular. Police have also asked the victims to use the help line telephone number of police station and district control room. “All cases of the domestic violence during lockdown period should be investigated by the officer not below the rank of S.I. of police. All Domestic Violence cases during lockdown period should be supervised by an officer of rank of DSP or above. Investigation Unit for Crime Against Women (IUCAW) of the district should remain extra alert and active during lockdown period,” added the circular.
