Odisha govt assures sufficient anti venom injection in hospitals amid snakebite scare

Bhubaneswar, June 24: The Odisha government has asked officials to bring snakebite victims to hospitals and ensure that patients do not go to sorcerers.

Sufficient quantity of anti venom serum has been kept in hospitals especially in all CHCs/ PHCs as large number of snakebite deaths are reported in tribal pockets of the state. All snakebite victims must be brought to the nearest health institution at the earliest for treatment and administer of anti-snake venom, said public health director Dr Nilakantha Mishra.

According to government report, 5219 people died due to snakebite in Odisha in the last five years. 

According to health experts, the snakebite victims should not walk and immediately be taken to hospital instead of following traditional treatment and going to sorcerers. 

People should take precautionary measures like sprinkling of phenyl, gamaxin power and other snake repellent chemicals around their houses along with keeping its around clean.
