Odisha: Four convictions in a day by Vigilance courts

Bhubaneswar, Jan 27: Various Vigilance courts today convicted four persons in trap and disproportionate asset (DA) case. In the first case, the court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur convicted Santosh Kumar Patra, former junior engineer. The court sentenced Patra to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of three years and to pay fine of Rs 20,000 for possession of disproportionate assets worth Rs 13.25 lakh. In the second case, Special Judge, Vigilance, Jeypore convicted retired PEO Barindra Majhi and former Sarpanch Haribandhu Majhi in connection with a fund misappropriation case. The court sentenced them to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of two years each and to pay fine of Rs 20,000. Similarly, the court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack today convicted retired peskar Kartika Chandra Biswal for demanding and accepting bribe. The court sentenced Biswal to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of two years and to pay fine of Rs 5000.
