Bhubaneswar, Oct 29: Hundreds of drivers under the banner of Odisha Driver Association took out a rally in Bhubaneswar pressing their 10-point charter of demands. The drivers started their march from Palasuni Chhak towards Naveen Niwas. The association has been on padyatra across various districts since October 21.  They are demanding compensation for the losses suffered during the lockdown. Other demands of the association include insurance coverage worth Rs 10 lakh on accident and Rs 20 lakh on death and recognition as employees of the State Transport Department and covid warriors. If the demands of the association aren’t met, the protest will be intensified and they will stage road blockades, said a driver association member. Notably, in view of continuous hike in fuel prices, All Odisha Private Bus Owners Association had earlier warned to suspend bus operation across the state from November 16 if the state government does not consider reducing VAT on fuel. The bus operators have alleged that the buses are facing huge losses due to price hikes in fuel and other essential commodities. The state government’s support is necessary to continue services.
