Bhubaneswar, June 22: Odisha government has demanded second All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Sambalpur.

in the pre-budget meeting chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on Saturday, Deputy Chief Minister K. V. Singhdeo said while the existing AIIMS in Bhubaneswar caters to the healthcare needs of coastal Odisha and neighboring regions, there is the need for a second AIIMS in Sambalpur.

This additional facility would help address the patient load in medical colleges and hospitals in the western part of Odisha, he said.

In addition to the AIIMS proposal, K.V. Singhdeo has raised several other important points during the pre-budget meeting held by Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharamana at New Delhi today.

Singhdeo seeks early completion of highway projects, including the coastal highway and the capital region ring road.

The state government aims to provide financial support to eligible women through the Subhadra scheme, fulfilling an election promise made by the BJP in Odisha.

The request for Central assistance in constructing 5 lakh houses under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY) is crucial for affordable housing.

The state government emphasizes creating an enabling environment to attract international investors and semiconductor industries. Additionally, higher allocation under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SACI) would accelerate infrastructure development.

The proposal for advance indication of state-wise annual allocations under CSS schemes during budget formulation would enhance budget planning and utilization of funds.

Support from the Central Government for new city development and rapid urbanization in Odisha is essential. Inclusion of Odisha DISCOMs under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme would address power sector challenges. These demands will receive due consideration in the upcoming Union Budget, KV said.
