Rayagada, Mar 13: Special Judge, Vigilance, Jeypore on Wednesday convicted Kunja Kishore Padhi, Ex-Constable, Bisam Katak, at present the Constable of Town Out-post, Rayagada Police Station in Odisha’s Rayagada district for demanding and accepting bribe.
Padhi was earlier charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.25,000 (Impersonating himself as Inspector, Vigilance) from a complainant to show official favour and suppress the Vigilance enquiry against his spouse ( a Govt. functionary).
For the offence, he was convicted and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and fine of Rs.10,000/- on each count and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 months on each count more.
The Court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and fine of Rs.25,000/- and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months more. The Court also sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year and fine of Rs.5,000/- on each count and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 months on each count more for the offence. All the sentences are to run concurrently.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for dismissal of Kunja Kishore Padhi from service following his conviction
