Bhawanipatna, Jan 4: Normal life in Odisha’s Kalahandi district was thrown out of gear on Thursday as the BJP is observing a 12-hour bandh over several demands.
The demands include shutting of country liquor manufacturing units from the district, stopping ‘Katni Chatni’ by millers during paddy procurement, decrease in electricity tariff and distress sale of cotton.
The effect of the bandh, which is being observed from 6 am to 6 pm, was felt in Bhawanipatna town as agitators resorted to picketing and road blockade at several places.
Vehicular movement was also affected due to the bandh.
However, emergency services including ambulance and healthcare services have been exempted from the purview of the bandh.
Police have been deployed at several locations to tackle any kind of untoward situation.
Notably, the saffron party had earlier gheraoed all block and RI offices pressing their demands. However, it gave the bandh call as no steps were taken towards fulfillment of the demands.
