Cuttack, Aug 2: A man from Odisha was forced to walk from Hyderabad to Cuttack, around 1150 kilometres, as the contractor did not pay him wages and allow him to board the train to reach home. Niranjan Mallick, a native of Govindpur village under Rajnagar block in the Kendrapara district, was working as a labourer in Hyderabad under a contractor. However, he was subjected to torture by the master. Sources said Niranjan had been to Andhra Pradesh in search of employment. He was working with a contractor since last year. Meanwhile, he decided to come back home. Accordingly, he sought the assistance of his master. However, the master denied him to provide wages and disallowed him to leave for home. Even, he cancelled the train ticket that Niranjan had fetched with the assistance of the co-workers. Getting no way out, he started his adventurous journey on his feet. After a ceaseless pace of 15 days, Niranjan reached Salepur road in Cuttack, while his heels were severely wounded. Locals nourished his wounds. Subsequently, he was sent home by a team of social activists.
