Bhawanipatna, Oct 25: The members of OBC forum observed a 12-hour bandh in Kalahandi district today protesting against the violation of constitutional rights of backward classes by the State Government.
The forum has demanded 27% reservation for backward classes in the upcoming panchayat elections.
The bandh started at 6 am and will be observed till 6 pm.
All the local shops and commercial establishments remained closed during the bandh. Besides, vehicles remained off the road. However, all essential services including medical and health services, media, and examinees were exempted from the purview of the bandh.
Worth mentioning, Zilla OBC Manch had observed a 12-hour bandh in Nuapada district on October 18 alleging that the State Government has reduced the reservation of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the upcoming Panchayat Elections from 27% to 2.8%.
The Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Department has published the draft list for reservation of Zilla Parishad president posts for the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and women in the 30 districts of the State on October 16.
