Bhubaneswar: There was no relief from the heatwave conditions as the sweltering heat intensified in most parts of the State today with Titliagarh, known as the heat island, becoming the hottest place at 45.5 degree Celsius in the State.
Apart from Titlagarh, eight other places recorded above 40 degree Celsius today.
The maximum day temperature in Bolangir was recorded at 44 degree Celsius followed by Malkangiri 43.5 degree Celsius, Sonepur, Bhawanipatna and Sundergarh each recording 43 degree Celsius, Sambalpur 42.7 degree Celsius, Jharsuguda 42.6 degree Celsius and Hirakud 41.4 degree Celsius.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has, meanwhile, predicted that the prevailing heatwave condition will continue till May 22.
Meanwhile, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi directed Collectors to remain alert and make provisions for drinking water kiosks and other requisite facilities to beat the heat.
