Bhubaneswar, Dec 10: The samples of 246 travellers from the ‘at risk’ countries sent for genome sequencing have not detected any new strain of the disease, bringing relief to the district administration and health authorities here, amidst the threat of a new variant of the virus. There are no cases of the new variant of the Covid-19 in Odisha so far. Worth mentioning, six travelers from the ‘at risk’ countries have tested positive for the Covid-19 since November 26, and their samples along with 240 others were sent for the new variant test on December 7. Earlier, genome sequencing of 141 samples of foreign returnees was conducted. However, fortunately, not a single sample was found to be an Omicron variant. According to senior health officials, 800-odd people have returned to Odisha from the UK, South Africa, Brazil, Botswana, China, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore and Israel, which were placed in the ‘at-risk’ category, since November 26.
