No hearse: Family members carry elderly man’s body on stretcher

Bhawanipatna, Feb 15: In a tragic incident, family members of an elderly man carried the latter's body on a stretcher after hospital authorities failed to provide them hearse service. The deceased has been identified as Sunai Majhi, a resident of Kathakura village under Thuamul Rampur block. Reportedly, Sunai had received several injuries on his head after accidentally falling in the bathroom of his house on Monday morning. He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition to Thuamul Rampur and later referred to District Headquarters Hospital, Bhawanipatna. However, Sunai succumbed late night on Monday. The family members of Majhi allegedly waited to receive his body for several hours till today morning but were not handed over the body by the hospital staff. Later they requested the authorities to conduct the post-mortem and provide a hearse van to take the body home. After their request failed, Sunai’s family decided to carry the body on a stretcher to their native village. Majhi's family members had already carried the body for around 1 kilometre from the DHH when Bhawanipatna Town Police Station came to their aid.  Shankar Majhi, the son of the deceased has blamed the hospital authorities for the incident.
