Paradip, Feb 12: A Jagatsinghpur-based court in Odisha on Monday sought a security bond for Rs 100 crore and bank guarantee worth Rs 10 crore from the shipping company for the release of the ship from which cocaine worth Rs 220 crore was seized in Paradip Port.
Hearing the case relating to the drugs haul, the NDPS Court Kujang in Jagatsinghpur district ordered that the MV Devi ship would be released after complying with the security bonds.
It may be noted here that in a major drug haul, cocaine weighing 22 kg,valued at about Rs 220 crore was seized from the Indonesian ship at the International Terminal of the Paradip Port on November 30, 2023.
The Panama-registered cargo ship, named MV Devi, left Egypt for Denmark. It arrived here via the Gresik port in Indonesia. Meanwhile, the huge cache of the contraband was recovered from it.
Following the seizure of cocaine, the ship was detained and investigation was underway. The Vietnam based crew members of the ship were detained as part of the probe.
