Nayagarh, Oct 7: A man was arrested for allegedly torturing his wife for dowry in Gurha village under Banigoccha police limits in Nayagarh district. The accused was identified as Prakash Nayak who had married Santoshini Behera two years back. Often, Prakash tortured Santoshini both physically and mentally demanding dowry. Recently, he had thrashed her black and blue and brutally scratched various parts of her body with a blade. He even locked her in a room. Prakash even tried to kill Santoshini by smashing stones at her head, but she escaped from the spot and informed her in-laws. Later her in-laws lodged a complaint in this regard. Based on the complaint, police rescued Santoshini from a locked room and rushed her to a nearby hospital for treatment.
