Nandankanan: Elephant ‘Basanti’ and tigress ‘Renuka’ fall sick

Barang, Mar 15: Elderly elephant Basanti and tigress Renuka, inmates of Nandankanan Zoological Park, have fallen sick. 56 year old female elephant Basanti is losing its eyesight day by day while the tigress has been diagnosed with ulcers in her body. Nandankanan authority said that a team of doctors from Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), is supervising health condition of the two animals. They report that the elephant is getting low vision due to its old age. Thus, they suggested an eye surgery to retrieve the elephant’s vision. Similarly, the tiger has got some infected ulcers by its waste those never heal up since long. It has been put inside enclosure No.18 for intensive care. Soon, the tiger will undergo an ultrasound, said a Nandankanan official.
