Mumbai, August 2: Music director Anu Malik has started trending on social media after Israel won their second gold medal at Olympics. After Israeli gymnast Artem Dolgopyat won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, in artistic gymnastics, the country’s flag was raised and their national anthem Hatikvah was played. Following this, netizens started to portray the comparisons between the Israeli national anthem tune and Anu Malik composed song ‘Mera Mulk Mera Desh’ from 1996 release ‘Diljale’. The musician was trolled on Twitter for copying the tune of Israel's national anthem. Diljale cast Ajay Devgn, Madhoo and Sonali Bendre featured the track ‘Mera Mulk Mera Desh’. It was directed by Harry Baweja and also starred Parmeet Sethi, Shakti Kapoor, Gulshan Grover and Amrish Puri in supporting roles. Malik has previously also faced criticism for using music written by other composers, for instance in the film ‘The Gentleman’ where the music of several songs credited to Malik was written by A. R. Rahman, and ‘Mera Piya Ghar Aaya’ in Yaarana which was allegedly identical to a song by the same name written by Pakistani Qawwali musician Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (1948–1997).
