New Delhi, Aug 11: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday said the Narendra Modi government is committed to social justice, as the Parliament passed a bill to give states power to make their own OBC lists. Replying to a debate on Constitution (127th Amendment) Bill, 2021 in Rajya Sabha, Pradhan said the Parliament has given powers to everyone and there is no ambiguity in this bill. “The government is committed to social justice. Nobody should raise any doubt on our intention. We are clear on our agenda,” said Pradhan. He said caste census in the country is a revolutionary process and several states have already extended the reservation on this basis. Speaking on Odisha's context, he said Odisha is the only state where there is no reservation for backward classes. The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday approved the Constitution (127th Amendment) Bill, 2021 to restore the power of states to make their own Other Backward Castes (OBC) lists. The bill was cleared by the Lok Sabha on Tuesday with unanimous support from the opposition members.
