Baripada, Oct. 13: A petition has been filed with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Friday in connection with the murder of a minor girl in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj for two saplings.
A human rights activist has prayed the commission to order an exgratia worth Rs 50 lakh for the rest of the kin of the deceased.
The petitioner, in the complaint, has sued the SP, Mayurbhanj, Odisha DGP, and the Secretary, Home Department to the Commission, seeking a high-level probe into the matter.
Worth mentioning, a 12-year-old tribal girl was allegedly thrashed to death by a neighbor in the Udala area of the district on Thursday over stealing a marigold and a green chilly sapling from his kitchen garden.
