Meet the woman who cremates non-Covid bodies to break the stigma

Bhubaneswar, May 17: A woman of Bhubaneswar has become a friend at the graveyard. She is cremating non–Covid bodies those are left untouched fearing Covid infection. The daring and selfless woman has been identified as Madhusmita Prusti who resides near the post office lane at Bhimtangi in Bhubaneswar. She is shouldering the bodies of unknown people irrespective of cast, creed and religion, if the family members, relatives and neighbours become reluctant to assist in the last rites. Madhusmita with the help of his husband Pradeep Prusti mange to carry the bodies to the graveyard and cremate them as per the traditional and religious rituals. The couple have so far cremated as many as 30 bodies within a week those were left untouched for hours fearing Covid-19 infection. ‘We do it as a social service. We will keep the mission on, in the future. At the same time, we appeal the mass to extend their hand in cremation of bodies of non-corona patients’, said Madhusmita.
