Rourkela, Aug 5: At Vedvyas crematorium here, the famous Swargadwar of western Odisha, you will find a boy Arjun Naik who is busy in helping the cremation of bodies. The minor boy (aged 14-15) is helping people in the cremation of their relatives for the last four years after the death of his father, who was working there, according to a worker of the crematorium. The crematorium management has not engaged him as a full-time worker as he is a minor. Arjun earns around Rs 200-300 daily by helping people in stacking pyres, bringing pyre wood, and supplying other essential items needed during the last rites. In the case of cremation of bodies from old age homes or of poor people, he helps them free of cost. "My elder brother is working as a truck helper and three younger siblings are studying. I am working here to help my family as my mother is not keeping well," said Arjun. I dropped out my school to earn the livelihood of my family and to help my younger siblings to continue their education, he added.
