Mayurbhanj, May 5: Cattle peddling in Mayurbhanj is going rampant in Mayurbhanj day by day.Scores of cattle laden trucks are passing the Odisha-West Bengal border, trafficking thousands of cows collecting from across the state. To get rid of threats from the religious outfits,cattle peddlers are crossing the states' borders mostly at night, and with the assistance of the local police.It has been revealed after three cops in Mayurbhanj came to the fore while they were bargaining for bribe in order to pass and pilot the cattle-laden trucks into West-Bengal. Acting on a viral audio, Mayurbhanj SP has suspended as many as two Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) and a Constable of Jharpokharia Police Station in Mayurbhanj on Wednesday. The officers have been identified as ASI Smruti Ranjan Swain, ASI Chandan Singh, and Constable Deepak Pal. The three cops who were on patrolling duty was claiming for a lump sum in order to release a detained cattle-ladden truck.The audio also revealed that the cops assured them easy transit of their cows without any hassles. At a time when denizens are crying for an ounce of pour milk and a traditional farmers are hardly finding a country-breed bullock across the state for tilling their ploughs due to lack of cows, Mayurbhanj police is working as a prime aide of the interstate cattle peddlers, tarnishes the image of police before public.
