Kochi, Mar 22: The Kerala High Court has imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on a man, G Jyothish from Desom, Aluva for filing a petition seeking home delivery of liquor. The court imposed the fine for filing such a frivolous petition at a time when the world is fighting a pandemic. The court has asked him to pay the amount to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund within two weeks and to produce the receipt before the High Court registrar-general, failing which revenue recovery proceeding should be initiated. Justice A K Jayasankaran Nambiar issued the order while dismissing the petition filed by Jyothish seeking a directive to Kerala State Beverages (Manufacturing & Marketing) Corporation Ltd (BEVCO) to sell liquor through online platforms. Since the outlets are hugely crowded during business hour, it was not safe for him to go to counter to buy liquor at the time of COVID-19 outbreak, he had mentioned in his petition.
