Balangir, Oct 24: The prime accused in Sunshine Public School principal Mamita Meher’s murder case has undergone a health check-up late on Saturday night. Gobinda Sahu, who is a diabetes patient, will be produced before the court as his five-day police remand ends today.
According to sources, Sahu was shifted to Reserve Police Barak from the Balangir SP office.
Police on Saturday handed over the anklet and chain to her family members.
Sources said police recovered some ornaments including a gold necklace, a pair of anklets from a 5-feet deep pit in Mahalinga stadium on Tuesday (October 19).
The ornaments were handed over to her family after they identified the deceased’s ornaments.
Meanwhile, a four-member team of Odisha State Commission for Women (OSCW) including Chairperson Minati Behera visited Mamita Meher’s residence at Jharni village under Tureikela Block, where her father demanded death sentence for the main accused.
“As Mamita was the sole breadwinner in the family, my son should be given a government job,” said Mamita’s father after meeting with OSCW Chairperson Minati Behera today.
The OSCW members discussed with the family members and assured justice for them. They also assured them to take stringent action against the accused person.
The OSCW chief said that a charge sheet will be filed soon and the murder case will be fast-tracked. Later, the team left for Mahaling in the Kalahandi district where Mamita’s body was found buried underground at an under-construction stadium near the Sunshine Public School.
