Mamata ‘antics’ unlikely to help a lasting momentum to match BJP’s firepower easily

Can the incident of the alleged attack on Mamata Banerjee at Nandigram tilt the balance in favour of the TMC? Or it would get stymied in the counter-narratives of the BJP calling the entire incident as a ‘ theatric’ one that Mamata wanted to use when she realised that it could be a deft rope walk for her in West Bengal.
As details emerging from the footage of that time, “it is difficult to make out of a possibility of a group attack. And that too when any chief minister usually remains within a three tier security besides the personal body guard ” observes Jayant Ghosh , a Kolkata based political analysts .
Antics Doesn’t Pay Always
Mamata Banerjee critics, including the Congress , have started to decelerate the entire pace of the momentum by saying that, how Mamata Banerjee is capable of such antics that she has done on Wednesday as well .
Senior journalist and political analyst, Arindam Chatterjee rued that, “such antics are common traits with many political leaders, why Mamata only” . “Often news are manufactured by leaders for gaining people’s empathy including by leaders of national stature” quipped Chatterjee.
However, pending the probe on the Nandigram incident , it would be difficult for the TMC cadre to keep up the momentum against the BJP bandwagon.
Surveys Can Console TMC Only
The initial take away from the initial projection by a media house has some reasons for the Mamata Banerjee followers to be content but not complacent in anyway .
And surely the C Voter’s survey, if anything to go by, can be a cause to dampen the spirit of the NDA for now if not after a week or so when the Prime Minister’s subsequent visits take place.
Why talking about West Bengal(WB) alone ? Because among all the states getting poll-ready, WB can be merrily assumed as a battle ground where PM, Narendra Modi virtually takes on the WB chief minister Mamata making it appear as a prestige issue for both .
The severity with which the BJP top brasses have shown the seriousness on WB polls, no pollster can afford to ignore the significance.
However , subsequent surveys may reveal a changed trend and that wouldn’t be far away . But it is hard to deal the initial survey by any casual ease .
Mamata Must Restore Cool
The most important factor that the incumbent chief minister of WB cannot lose sight of is, she is facing a multi-pronged attack where her position requires the protection of her image only and not just antics.
Playing the cards of appeasement apart , the WB chief minister should get down to the ground to speak for Roti-Kapda-Makan issues those remain unspoken by all the stake-holders for now .
