Machkund dam power gate malfunctions: Water overflows on canal in Koraput

Koraput, Jan 26: Disorder of power gate in Machkund dam in Odisha’s Koraput district has triggered danger for the power canals due to overflow of water. Sources said the power gate No. 2. of the Machkund D dam went defunct from Tuesday. As a result, the reversible gate heads could not be opened for the exit of the surplus water. Subsequently, the water level of the dam swelled up and began to exit over the power canals causing more concern for the TP dam. According to the locals, thousands of cusecs of water is being overflown in the upper part of the canals and exit for the Chitrakonda reservoir. Long-term overflow will cause serious harm to the TP dam, they said.
