Bhubaneswar, Dec 6: The Odisha Assembly continued to witness pandemonium for the fifth consecutive day on Monday as both the opposition and the ruling party created ruckus over different issues. While the opposition BJP and Congress went into the well demanding the removal of Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra for his alleged links with the prime accused in Mamita Meher murder case, the BJD members wearing the face mask of Jayi Rajguru demanded to recognize Paika Rebellion 1817 as the first war of Independence. Unable to run the House smoothly, Speaker SN Patro adjourned it till 4 pm. The BJD MLAs staged a dharna near Gandhi statue on the premises of Odisha Assembly after the House was adjourned. The BJP members also took out a rally from the Assembly premises to the Post Master General office and posted letters addressing the Chief Minister on Mamita Meher issue.   Senior BJD leader and Minister Ashok Chandra Panda said the Paika Rebellion of Odisha, which took place 40 years before the ‘Sepoy Mutiny’ (1857 AD) eminently qualifies to be called as the first war of Indian Independence. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had requested the Centre to declare Paika Rebellion as the first War of Independence. But, recently Union Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy informed the Rajya Sabha that the ‘Paika Bidroha’ cannot be called the first War of Independence, he said.
