Dhenkanal, Feb 22: A loco-pilot reportedly saved his life jumping off the train as the engine caught fire all of a sudden.
The loco-pilot who sustained injuries on his body, was rescued by RPF and fire service crews.
The incident took place on Thursday at the Joranda Road Station on the midway to Dhenkanal station in the afternoon.
Sources said that a loco-pilot was heading an engine towards the Athgarh Station in the Cuttack district from the Joranda Road station. Meanwhile, a few kilometers from Govindpur, the engine was found on fire. Within no time the whole engine was filled in flames and smoke following which the loco-pilot onboard jumped off the running engine in a bid to save his life.
Being informed, station officials, RPF and fire services teams rushed to the spot and initiated a dousing operation.
The dousing operation is so far underway. The loco-pilot is also under treatment, whose health condition is reported to be normal, said a railway official.
