Rourkela, Dec 31: Legendary hockey player Michael Kindo passed away at the age of 74 on Thursday. The 1975 World Cup winner and recipient of Arjuna Award was undergoing treatment for geriatric complications for the last one month at Rourkela Ispat General Hospital. Kindo, was a member of the team that won the lone World Cup for India in 1975 in Kuala Lumpur while he was also in the team that won a bronze medal in the 1972 Olympics in Munich. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family members of Kindo. “Deeply saddened to know the passing away of hockey legend and Arjuna Awardee Michael Kindo, a tribal icon and part of India's World Cup winning team of 1975. My thoughts are with his family and fans,” read the tweet of the CM. Family members of Kindo said that his last rites will be completed tomorrow after arrival of his daughters. Kindo is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters.
