Know the criminal antecedents of Hyder who was killed in police encounter

Bhubaneswar, July 24: Gangster Hyder killed in police encounter near Simulia in Balasore district on Saturday had earned infamy in the 1990s and 2000s for a string of crimes including murder in Odisha. Hyder hailing from Dilharpur locality of Kendrapara town used to be a rickshaw puller before his entry into the crime syndicate. Hyder’s life took a turn when he came in contact with local criminal Rabindra Behera alias Rabin. Hyder rose to fame after killing SK Chuna, brother of his arch-rival Suleiman in Kendrapara in 2005. Subsequently, he was arrested from Nagapur and was awarded life imprisonment in 2011. However, he continued to operate his crime network from jail. In 2008, Hyder’s involvement was found in the kidnapping and murder of mines trader Rashmi Ranjan Mahapatra. He was again sentenced to life imprisonment in this case. Police said that more than 15 cases related to murder, extortion and attempt to murder are lodged against the gangster in various police stations of Kendrapara, Bhubaneswar and Puri. Hyder had earlier escaped from SCB Hospital on April 10 where he was undergoing treatment following which the Commissionerate police launched a search operation and nabbed Hyder from Telengana within 5 days with the help of Telengana police.
