Keonjhar, June 15: Huge quantity of mask prepared by a women Self Help Group (SHG) of Keonjhar has been left unsold for a long time putting its economy at stake. Lakhs of masks are going to be destroyed at the workshop of Pragati Utpadika Sangh at Naranapur village under Keonjhar district as the legislators did not purchase it from the SHG despite placing bulk orders. According to a functionary of Pragati Utpadika Sangh Nalini Mohanta, ‘We invested lakhs of rupees in mask making after MLAs of the district assured us bulk orders out of their Local Area Development(LAD) funds. However, no formal order has been placed so far resulting economic crisis in the institutions.’ On the other hand, the district administration and industrial establishments of the districts are yet to purchase any mask from the SHG amid the surge of Corona. Notably, Pragati Utpadika Sangh had supplied quality masks worth Rs 15 lakh to the state before the second wave of Corona. However, sizable stock of mask with no sale has lumbered the productivity of the self reliant women.
