Kartika Purnima 2022: Try 'Habisa Dalma' this Kartik Purnima

Bhubaneswar, Oct 27: Odisha will be celebrating Kartika Purnima - one of the holiest days of the year on November 8, 2022. It is also celebrated as Deepavali for Gods and Goddesses which is known as Dev Deepawali. As per Hindu stories, it has been said that Hindu God's and goddesses arrived in earth surface and took a dip in the rivers. Lots of Oriya women do not eat non vegetarian for the whole month, even if they don’t eat onion and garlic too. They usually eat once during the day and one of the main items for the meal is Habisa Dalma. Ingredients: 1 cup moong dal 1 tin of jackfruit 2 raw bananas 2 Saru or Arbi 1 table spoon ghee 1 tea spoon cumin seeds 2 red chillies 2 inch ginger - grated 1 tea spoon of dry cumin seeds roasted and powdered Fresh grated coconut 2-3 bay leaves Salt to taste Preparation: -Take a kadhai and roast the moong dal until it starts changing color. -Soak the dal for 1 hour. -Take a Kadhai, add the dal and salt and three times the water and let it boil for 15 min. -Add the Arbi and let it cook for a few minutes. -Then add the chopped raw bananas and the cut raw jackfruit. -Once everything is cooked, add salt to taste. -Take another kadhai, add the ghee, chillies and the cumin seeds, bay leaves and the grated ginger and pour the mixture on the dal. -Add some cumin powder and fresh grated coconut and mix well in the dal. Serve hot. -Remember don’t add turmeric powder in it.
