Kanpur, Dec 10: A police inspector, identified as Vinod Kumar Mishra, from Kanpur has been suspended after a video of him beating up a man cradling a kid went viral on the internet. In the video, the Kanpur cop could be seen trashing the man mercilessly despite of the fact that the man was carrying a child in his arms. The man could be seen begging the cops to stop as the child could be hit and get hurt, but the policeman did not pay any heed. After the video went viral, the UP police received a lot of criticism in the internet from all over the country. According to sources, the cop thrashed the person during a lathicharg on the employees of a hospital who were protesting against an ongoing excavation near the hospital premises. The Kanpur police in its defense said that the person being thrashed in the video was creating havoc inside the hospital. The police also said that the protesters were asked to move away. But when things did not work out, they resorted to lathicharge. BJP Member of Parliament Varun Gandhi tweeted about the incident saying that a strong law should be enforced to ensure justice for the weak. “A strong law and order system should evoke fear of law, not of the police,” his tweet read.
