Jyotiraditya Scindia takes charge as Civil Aviation Minister

New Delhi, July 9: Newly inducted Union Cabinet Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia took charge of the Ministry of Civil Aviation in the presence of former Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Friday. He was accompanied by Gen (Retd) VK Singh, who assumed the charge as the Minister of State for Civil Aviation. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar reached his office to congratulate Scindia on the occasion. In the past, Scindia has held responsibility of the Communications and Information Technology Ministry as MoS from 2007-2009, the Commerce and Industry ministry as MoS from 2009 to 2012 and later the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power from 2012 to 2014. He was four times elected to Lok Sabha from Madhya Pradesh and now, it is his first term as Member of Rajya Sabha. Scindia has also been Member of Standing Committees on Finance, External Affairs and Defence; Member of Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports; Member of Committees on Estimates, Petitions and Privileges and Member of Consultative Committee, Ministry of Home Affairs. With regards to educational background, Scindia is a graduate from Harvard and also did Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Stanford. Jyotiraditya’s father, Madhav Rao Scindia, was also the Civil Aviation Minister from 1991 to 1993. The scion of the former royal family of Gwalior resigned from Congress and joined BJP in March 2020.
