Bhubaneswar, Jan.13: Good news for the commuters on the busy Jaydev Vihar- Nandan Kanan road. The Public Works Department has planned to make the road from Jaydev Vihar-KIIT Square portion 8 laned to ease the utter traffic jam. The proposed 8 lanes will comprise of dedicated tracks for pedestrians, and cyclists and service road for the vehicles.
The project would also add two flyovers ,one at Kalinga Hospital and other at Damana Crossing. The department has got the Government’s approval to prepare Detailed Project Report for the extension project.
According to Executive Engineer R&B Division 3, Himanshu Sarangi, proposal in this regard has been submitted to the Chief Engineer concerned. Feasibility study is being carried out. Project proposals will be finalised soon.
Jaydev Vihar –KIIT road had been renovated almost 14 years ago. Since then, the existing 6-lane road is witnessing a lion’s share of the city’s traffic. For the acute traffic situation emerging now the department is all set to widen it up to 8 lanes with some addition on amenities for the citizens.
The two would be over bridges -the first one at Kalinga Hospital Square and the second at Damana Square will minimise the traffic load of the city, says Sarangi. Apart from it , adjacent roads will be developed into utility corridor ,footpath, cycling track and service road for the locals.
The estimated budgetary provision of about Rs 350 crores is likely to be sanctioned in the coming budget.
