Jammu, September 18: The first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections saw a voter turnout of 50.65% as of 3 p.m., according to the Election Commission of India.
Constituency-wise, voter participation was recorded as follows: Anantnag at 46.67%, Doda at 61.90%, Kishtwar at 70.03%, Kulgam at 50.57%, Pulwama at 36.90%, Ramban at 60.04%, and Shopian at 46.84%.
Polling began at 7 a.m. amid tight security and will continue until 6 p.m.
Voters formed long queues at polling stations from early morning.
The first phase covers 24 assembly constituencies, with 16 in the Kashmir region and 8 in the Jammu region.
Voting for the second and third phases is scheduled for September 25 and October 1, respectively, while the vote counting will take place on October 8.
