Bhubaneswar: Supreme Court-appointed amicus curiae Gopal Subramanium will visit to Puri on September 20 to hold discussions with Shree Jagannath Temple Administration officials, Shankaracharya Nischalananda Saraswati, members of Chhatisa Nijog and Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb on the slew of reforms at the Jagannath Temple in Puri, suggested by the Supreme Court in its orders recently.
Subramanium will hold discussions will all the stakeholders, including SJTA authorities, servitors, Shankaracharya and Gajapati on September 21 and 22 over 12 proposals of the apex court.
Servitors of Puri Jagannath temple are opposing the Supreme Court’s suggestion on giving access to people of all religious beliefs into the shrine among a slew a suggestions. For years, the Jagannath temple allows the entry of only Hindus into it. The servitors also expressed their displeasure over the Puri District Judge’s suggestion to the Supreme Court to abolish the hereditary priesthood in the 12th century shrine.
