Udala, Feb 24: Forest officials have seized ivory weighing 45 kg from Angarapada area in Udala in Mayurbhanj district and arrested two persons in this connection. As per information, a team of forest officials have struck a deal with the smugglers to buy ivory at a cost of Rs 18 lakh. Accordingly the team reached the spot and nabbed both the smugglers besides seizing the ivory. “The accused could not produce any valid authority in support of possession of the tusks for which they have been arrested and will be forwarded to the court,” said an official. The official further said that the seized elephant tusks will be sent to Wild Life Institute of India, Dehradun for chemical examination and further investigation in the case is continuing.
