IPL betting racket busted in Odisha, Rs 9 lakh cash seized

Deogarh, Oct 6: Police today busted a betting racket on IPL matches in a village of the district and arrested two persons in this connection. Police have also seized cash worth Rs 9 lakh and gold ornaments weighing 17 grams from the accused. Acting on a tip-off about the racket, a team of Deogarh Model police station conducted a raid on Pravashuni village and busted the racket. The accused have been identified as Bapun Behera and his brother Lipun Behera. Police said that Bapun has registered himself on an online betting website. “He was also placing bets of others on the website. The accused came under scanner after we found movement of people to their house during IPL matches,” said a police official. Police further said that they are scanning the bank accounts of both the accused. “We are also trying to verify involvement of others in the racket,” added the official.
