Delhi, May 10: As India & Pakistan, after a frontal combat of over three days, agreed to full ceasefire, both nations immediately stopped their wars whether, on land, in air or water this afternoon.
However, the Indus Water Treaty that was kept in abeyance in the wake of the Pahalgam massacre, till remained a backlog for Pakistan.
Despite DGMO-level discussions held on Saturday between the two nations, decisions on the Indus Waters Treaty which is in abeyance and suspension of visas remained unchanged, as it was recently decided by the Indian government, said sources.
The announcement followed a sharp escalation between the two neighbours, with their militaries targeting each other’s facilities hours before the agreement was reached.
Official sources clarified that the cessation of hostilities was directly negotiated between the two nations. “Pakistan DGMO initiated a call this afternoon, after which discussions took place and a full ceasefire became”, the sources said.
Worth mentioning, the 1960 treaty regulates the sharing of water from the Indus River and its tributaries between the South Asian nations.
India pulled out of it last month after a deadly attack on tourists in Kashmir’s Pahalgam valley where 26 persons were killed due asking their religion on April 22.
