Puri, June 9: A pall of gloom descended over the family and college community after the sudden and untimely death of a second-year student of Gopabandhu Ayurveda College, Puri. The only daughter of her parents, she had once been their dream—hoping she would become a doctor and serve patients with compassion. That dream was abruptly shattered, leaving her family devastated.
The student, identified as Sangramika Panda, was residing with her parents in a rented accommodation near Jhadewshwari Temple in Puri. According to reports, she had stayed awake throughout the night completing her practical record work. After having breakfast in the morning, she went to sleep. However, when her parents later tried to wake her for lunch, she did not respond.
She was immediately taken to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. The news triggered deep mourning among her family members, who lost their only child. Her classmates and college mates also rushed to the hospital, expressing shock and grief over the sudden loss.
The body was later sent for post-mortem examination. After the procedures, the funeral rites were performed at Swargadwar in Puri. In an emotional gesture, her fellow students arranged the bier and carried her body on their shoulders, as no close relatives were available at that moment. The General Secretary of the Students’ Union performed the last rites.
The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom over the college campus. A condolence meeting was held in the institution, where students and faculty prayed for the departed soul. Many expressed disbelief over her sudden death, as she was reportedly healthy and active. Questions are now being raised about whether exhaustion, academic pressure, or other health complications may have contributed to the tragedy.
