New Delhi, June 9: After enduring days of intense heat and soaring temperatures, residents of Delhi received much-needed relief as rainfall lashed several parts of the national capital on Tuesday evening. The showers brought down temperatures and offered respite from the prevailing heatwave conditions across the Delhi-NCR region.
The change in weather comes amid forecasts of increased rainfall activity across North India. Earlier in the day, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and parts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are likely to witness widespread rainfall between June 10 and June 14, marking a significant shift in weather patterns across the region.
The IMD also forecast isolated to scattered rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand during the same period. While temperatures across North India are expected to rise by 2°C to 4°C until June 11, a gradual decline of 3°C to 5°C is likely thereafter.
Heatwave conditions continue to affect isolated areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, with warnings remaining in place until June 11.
The weather department has further indicated that a fresh Western Disturbance is likely to influence the Western Himalayan region from June 11, triggering significant weather changes. Thunder squalls accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph are expected in Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh between June 11 and 12.
Additionally, isolated hailstorms may occur in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand during June 11-12, while similar conditions are possible in Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi on June 12.
Authorities have advised residents to stay updated with weather forecasts and take necessary precautions as changing weather conditions may lead to localized disruptions.
