IMD issues yellow warning for 15 districts, SRC alerts district collectors

Bhubaneswar, June 7: With a low-pressure area most likely to form over north Bay of Bengal, the Regional Meteorological Centre on Monday issued yellow warning, lightning and thunderstorm, for several parts of Odisha. Light to moderate rain is also likely to occur in 15 of the districts. The districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur will witness lightning and thunderstorm on Monday. Thunderstorms with lightning is likely to occur at one or two places in the above districts, informed Regional Meteorological Centre director H. Biswas. Similarly, the Director of the Centre for Environment and Climate of SOA Dr. Sarat Chandra Sahu predicted that the heat wave will intensify from tomorrow morning and rainfall will lash in the afternoon. Worth mentioning, Baripada of Mayurbhanj district has recorded 18 mm of rainfall followed by 17 mm in Balasore, 11 mm at Nayagarh and 8mm at Chandbali on Sunday in between 8:30 am to 5: 30 pm. Similarly, 31mm rainfall was recorded at Rajghat, Kuchinda recorded 30 mm of rainfall, 22mm in Govindpur, 20 in Balasore, 16mm in Rampur and 14mm in Balasore in the last 24-hours, as per IMD. SRC has asked the collectors to circulate the forecast among the public and monitor the situation. They have also been told to take necessary action in case of any eventuality.
