Cuttack, Sept 15: With the Cuttack unit of Congress up in arms against the imposition of a set of restrictions by the administration during Durga Puja celebration in Cuttack this year, protests erupted at various places of Cuttack. Congress workers led by MLA Mohammed Moquim staged a silent protest near Purighat Gandhi statue at Purighat demanding the government to alter its decision on various restrictions imposed on Duga Puja. Members of Hindu Jagarana Mancha also staged a protest in front of Cuttack Collector’s office for an indefinite period demanding the lifting of the curb. Moquim said that Durga Puja has a special place in the historical city of Cuttack. A controversy erupted here regarding the celebration of Puja which led to protests and agitations on the height of statue and the rituals. He also added that the impact of the Covid pandemic has dissipated to some extent. The issue needs to be resolved through dialogue and focus should be shifted to Durga Puja celebrations in a disciplined manner with adherence to Covid-19 protocol. If the government re-consider the issue, then only it is possible, he added.
