Hyderabad, May 5: In a bone chilling case of honour killing, a Dalit man was allegedly stabbed to death by his wife’s relatives near Saroornagar Tehsildar office in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Nagaraju, a resident of Marredpally in Secunderabad.
The Saroornagar police has arrested two accused, namely Syed Mobin Ahmed and Mohammed Masood Ahmed for their alleged involvement in the murder.
According to police reports, the accused, who belong to a Muslim family, had a grudge on the deceased after he married their 23-year-old sister, Syed Ashrin Sultana two months ago.
The accused had then hatched a plan to kill Nagaraju and after getting the right opportunity on Wednesday attacked him and stabbed him to death.
Following the incident, the deceased’s family had held a protest in the area demanding justice for Nagaraju.
“They [Sultana and Nagaraju] were both in love from their college days. They got married at Arya Samaj mandir of the Old City two months ago. Since they belonged to different religions, her family killed the boy,” alleged one of Nagraju’s relatives.
Meanehile, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala took to Twitter to comment on the incident.
“Had a Muslim husband of a Hindu wife been killed by her family we know what would happen by now! Congress,AAP,TMC,SP would have reached United Nations alleging ISLAMOPHOBIA. But since Hindu has been killed & in Hyderabad – the crime is secular? Hence secular chuppi” He said in the tweet.
At the same time, Telangana BJP MLA Raja Singh has called for the arrest of everyone involved in the planning and execution of the murder.
“Was it the family members, or did some religious groups advise the family? Did some group promise them financial help? There should be a full-fledged inquiry into this murder.” Singh said in a statement.
