Hilsa abounds in Odisha’s Bhadrak: Price remains high

Bhadrak, July 16: Hilsa fishes(Ilish) are caught in abundance in Odisha’s Bhadrak due to favourable conditions for rain in last few days.  Fishermen at Dhamra , especially at the Chandinipal fishing harbour are netting huge quanitities of Hilsa which is considered as a monsoon delicacy across Odisha and West Bengal. However, many people fail to buy the fish due to high price. Fishermen around the Dhamra port have been catching tons of Hilsa for the past three days. Most significantly, large size ilish(Tiger Hilsa) weighing 2kg to 3.5 kg are also being trapped in the fishing nets. {"id":198276,"sizeSlug":"full","linkDestination":"none"} The price of the Tiger Hilsa is skyrocketing as the demand for it is extremely high. According to locals, Hilsa weighing below 1 kilogram weight is fetching Rs 1200. Whereas, the fishes above 1 kilogram are reportedly being sold at Rs 1900 a kilo. Similarly, Hilsa weighing 500 to 600 grams is being sold at Rs 600, which is the common market value of the fish in the offseason. Traders are also exporting the fish to West Bengal for fetching high  price.
