Bhanjanagar, Dec 17: A herd of elephants is ravaging ripe paddy in Uttar Ghumsar area of Ganjam district, camping near the villager forest. Paddy farmers are in distress as the pachyderms can’t be chased in any way, despite the drive operation of the forest officials. According to the locals of Domuhani village, a herd of at least 25 elephants is camping near the village to eat up the harvestable paddy. {"id":154377,"sizeSlug":"full","linkDestination":"none"} All efforts of the villagers along with the Galery Range officials have proved fruitless as the wild elephants are rampaging into the paddy field few minutes after they were driven out. Worth mentioning, Cyclone Jawad had devoured most of the crops in Berhampur and Ganjam pockets leaving a few acres of standing paddy in the shallow areas of the district. The elephants will eat up the whole paddy which was left out from the mouth of Jawad related rain, said an affected farmer.
